Rwandapedia

Updated: Oct 15, 2021

About

Rwandapedia is an open, digital platform created to let students, researchers, policymakers, journalists, and public servants learn about Rwanda and its transformation journey. It’s the place to learn about Rwanda’s innovative Homegrown Initiatives (HGI) approach: the creation of development programs in the social, economic, and governance sectors, to fit the country’s needs and context, based on culturally owned practices.

Role: UI Design, Information architecture designer, Wireframing.

Tools: Figma, Miro

Responsibilities

I and the team were tasked with designing Rwandapedia's information on a digital platform in a minimalist and easy to use & navigate for users of the website. The outcome to be a desktop&mobile friendly website. Here is how we did it;

Information gathering

The first step of all was to work with the respective institutions and organizations to get all the relevant information we wanted to display on our site, together with our story-tellers we had to narrow it down and make harvest our content bank and out of it curates an amazing but brief story about Rwanda in the intended aspects.

Information grouping

After information gathering, we went on with our goal to summarize the information into small& significant chunks to make the storyline by making sure we do not miss the bigger picture of the project. We ended up with a 5 menu sitemap; Welcome, Country profile, Homegrown initiatives, we wanted people not just to read and go but even go deep and learn how we got here and introduced the "E-learning" section, and finally the contact us section.

Wireframing & UI Design

We then went ahead and put all the above into wireframes and high fidelity mockups & prototypes
